BJP Announces New Party President After Months of Deliberation

After months of internal discussions and speculation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named Union Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda’s successor as its new national president. Rajnath Singh, a senior leader and current Defence Minister, emerged as the consensus candidate late Thursday evening, ending a prolonged period of uncertainty within the party. Sources indicate that the decision was finalized after a series of closed-door meetings aimed at balancing regional representation and rewarding loyalty to the party’s ideological core. The transition comes as the BJP gears up for crucial state elections in 2025, with Singh expected to steer the party toward consolidating its base in southern India. Opposition leaders, however, dismissed the move as “more of the same,” with Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh quipping, “A new face doesn’t change old tactics.”
