Hyderabad, April 2, 2025 – Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has called on Telangana’s Congress-led government to suspend a controversial land auction near the University of Hyderabad (UoH), as reported by Hindustan Times. The plea follows protests by students and environmentalists over the state’s plan to sell 400 acres in Kancha Gachibowli, Serilingampally, for industrial use, risking ecological damage.
Telangana BJP MPs, led by G Kishan Reddy, met Pradhan on Tuesday, alleging night-time tree-felling by the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC). A Telangana High Court order has paused clearing, but over 22,000 petitioners—including actor Dia Mirza—demand preservation of the forest-like tract, citing the 1996 Godavarman ruling. Pradhan warned CM Revanth Reddy of central intervention if the auction proceeds unchecked.
