Panchkula, March 25, 2025 – Panchkula police arrested six individuals on Tuesday for a house theft in Sector 16, recovering Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 15 lakh. The arrests, detailed by Hindustan Times, followed a swift investigation after a complaint from homeowner Shiv Kumar Gupta, who reported the break-in on March 23.
The accused—Raju Yadav, Sonu Kumar, Bablu Paswan, Bablu Kumar, Sanjay Paswan from Bihar, and local Sanjay Kumar—were nabbed within 48 hours using CCTV footage and tip-offs. Police seized burglary tools, a motorcycle, and a stolen mobile phone alongside the loot. “The gang targeted locked homes, striking when residents were away,” said Inspector Aman Kumar, adding that two members were repeat offenders linked to prior thefts in Chandigarh.
Crime in Panchkula has spiked—snatching and theft cases rose 12% in 2024 (Times of India)—straining a city nestled in Haryana’s Shivalik foothills. The swift crackdown offers relief, but the ease of the heist exposes vulnerabilities in residential security. With the accused in custody and more recoveries expected, the focus shifts: Can policing keep pace with rising petty crime, or are deeper fixes needed?
